Italian Style Hot Chocolate for #Chotoberfest

Yes, there are different levels of deliciousness when it comes to hot chocolate and this Italian Style Hot Chocolate is one of the best I've ever tried. Keep in mind that the  quality of the chocolate truly matters in a recipe like this one.

My favorite baking chocolate is Divine Chocolate. Their baking line consists of three premium quality flavors ranging from 55% to 100% cocoa for a making a wide variety of delicious desserts. Divine Chocolate baking bars are also Vegan Society Certified...which is pretty cool if you are vegan.

Italian Style Hot Chocolate
  • 2 cups half & half (you can use your favorite vegan milk product too)
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch or flour
  • 1-2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 6 ounces Divine Chocolate Baking Bars, at least 55%
  • Pinch of salt
  1. Break chocolate into small pieces
  2. Add sugar and cornstarch into a medium bowl and whisk together.
  3. Add 1/2-1 cup of the half & half and whisk together vigorously.
  4. Pour remaining half & half into sauce pan, add vanilla, and place over medium heat.
  5. Whisk cornstarch mixture together again briefly, then add to sauce pan.
  6. Cook mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the mixture comes just up to a boil and thickens, 2-3 minutes.
  7. Once the mixture comes to a boil, remove immediately from heat.
  8. Add chocolate, and a pinch of salt.
  9. Stir mixture gently to melt the chocolate and incorporate the flavors.
  10. Pour hot chocolate into cups and serve.
