Cinnamon Tom Cat Mint Julep

By: The Food Hunter

The Kentucky Derby is right around the corner, so I thought it only appropriate to do a post featuring the Mint Julep Cocktail.

While a classic Mint Julep includes whiskey, Barr Hill’s Tom Cat Gin($45.99) is aged six-months in American white oak barrels to produce a wonderfully approachable spirit that marries the best qualities of gin and whiskey.

Bartender, Matt Farkas, created the unique Cinnamon Mint Julep recipe below. By using Tom Cat Gin in this recipe, you are sure to win big no matter what happens with the horse race.

Cinnamon Tom Cat Mint Julep
  • 2 oz Tom Cat Gin
  • 3/4 oz Cinnamon Syrup
  • 10 leaves Fresh Mint

Muddle fresh mint and cinnamon syrup in the bottom of julep tin or cocktail glass. Add crushed ice until the glass is filled about 1/2 way then pour 1 1/2 oz of the Tom Cat Gin over top and stir. Continue to add crushed ice as you stir until the glass is almost full. Finish by pouring an additional 1/2 oz of Tom Cat Gin over top and garnishing with fresh mint and grated cinnamon.
